How to Merge Your Google+ Local and G+ Business Pages - Special Edition

Recently, you may have noticed a new Google+ Local page that replaced the Google Places listing. If you had a Google+ Page for your chiropractic practice and a Google Places page, you likely now have a Google+ Local page and a Google+ Business page. In today’s blog, I will be offering step-by-step instructions to merge your Google+ Local page with your Google+ Business page. Three things you will need to complete the process: Google+ Personal Page, Google+ Business Page, and Google+ Local Page (formally Google Places).

1.    Create a personal Google+ Account. (This is an account that will be represented by you, not your practice. This should be an account that is REAL.  It will be connected to your website)

i.    Make sure that you use a picture with just you in it and looking forward. Use a clear picture because Google uses face recognition to find additional photos of you.

ii.    Make sure you follow at least 10 people (preferably people in your area that may follow you back).

iii.    Update your “About” section and be sure to add your website to the contributor section (see if your website is www or non-www in the search engines).

2.    Create a Google+ Business Page (This page will not be directly be connected to your personal page)

i.    From your personal page go to the left side bar and hover over “More” (has three dots over it). Then click on “Pages” (should appear when you hover).
ii.    In the upper right hand corner there should be a red button that says “Create new page,” click on the button.
iii.    From here, pick the type of business you are representing (use “Local Business or Place”).
iv.    At this point you are going to want to use the same phone number that is listed on your Google+ Local (if this is a brand new business skip to the next step.)

i.    If you are unsure what your Google+ Local Page is or not sure if you have one, first go to http://www.google.com/places/ and click “Get started now.” (If you are using Google for your first time skip this step)

a.    This will bring you to your “Old Google Places Account.” If it is asking for a “country and phone number,” you can leave this screen.
b.     If a “dashboard” comes up you should be able to click “See your listing on Google.” This will bring you to a Google+ Local Page with your phone number (write this phone number down).

ii.    Even if you are using Google for the first time you may still have a profile. In Google+ click on the “Local” tab on the left side.

a.     On the top of the page you are able to search for your chiropractic business.

1.    Try your business name Old and New

2.    Phone Numbers Old and New

b.    If you find your business write down the phone number.

v.    If you came up empty handed or are a brand new business write your phone in for the “Primary phone number.” If you found your business phone number enter it in here (you will be able to make the corrections if it is wrong).

vi.    If you already have a listing you should be able to select it on the next screen. If this is a new business or you didn’t have a listing Click on “No matches located Add your business to Google.”

i.    If you clicked on “No matches located Add your business to Google,” you can enter your information on the next screen. Enter “Business Info, Phone, Address, & Category” and click “Create.”
ii.    If you already had a listing, correct misinformation and click “Create.”

vii.    You should Update your page with your “Tagline, Introduction, Contact Info, Website & Links.”

viii.    At this point, on your Google+ Business page, you can click the red “Verify” button.

ix.    Now wait 5-10 days for a PIN number from Google and enter it in when it arrives.
