As a chiropractor with a practice to run, you may be intimidated by social media or may not be sure where to start with building your social presence. There are several simple things that you can do to become a social media guru for your practice. To have a successful campaign, the main thing you need to do is be involved with the management of your social media.

Below are some key tips to explain social media and help you understand how to engage with social media.

1. Social Media vs. Website

Your website is an educational place where people learn about your practice and the services you offer. Social media is different as it is more lighthearted and provides a fun place where you can engage with your patients and followers. Rather than posting technical content about chiropractic care (lengthy industry articles or academic literature), post content that relates to your practice in a broad manner, such as quotes, factoids, funny videos, or cartoons.

Remember, the main goal is to have your followers enjoy your posts and like, +1, tweet, comment or share your post with their friends. This can also be a great way to communicate with your audience about important events, special announcements, and interesting information.

2. Post, Check, Respond

Once you begin posting to your social media, be sure to check the page regularly to see if any of your followers have left comments. You can set up email alerts to let you know when someone comments as well. Respond to comments left by fans. This is your opportunity to engage followers in conversation and keep the communication going.

The more engagement you get with your posts, the more likely it is that the social media sites will consider your content relevant and valuable. If your content is considered relevant and valuable, it will appear more often in the newsfeeds of your followers.

3. Don’t Stop Posting

Make it part of your routine to post to your social media pages regularly, at least once a week at a minimum. Best practices are to post about 2-3 times a week and never more than twice a day. Over-posting can fatigue your followers and cause them to hide your posts or stop following you. It’s a fine line to walk between regular engagement and over-posting.

Keep these three simple steps in mind when posting to social media and don’t forget to have fun with it.
